Schedule of Masses
|Week of May 5, 2013|
My dear friends:
The first concerns locating parish family members who are victims of this storm. We are slowly gathering information; but I appeal to you today, asking you to call the parish office if you know of anyone in the parish who has been affected and how we might reach them.
The second concerns the appropriate distribution of assistance. We are receiving calls from parishes around the country offering help, and our response is simple. What these families need is cash money or gift cards. This is the best help. Truck loads of things are not helpful. They have no place to put those things, and there is no place to store them. If you wish to assist, we shall account for all gifts received, acknowledge them, and distribute them to those we know in need.
The third concern is a matter for the future. My experience in the past is that weeks after tragedies like this there is a spiritual and emotional need that surfaces. In the next few days the parish staff will be working to provide comfort, guidance, and counsel to those who are putting their lives back together. We shall call upon professionals to assist with this effort and quickly develop a recovery program for those in need of this support.
For now we are working together as a family. Your prayers and your response will be the work of Christ among us.
