Dear People of God,
Last Saturday's "Roman Holiday" event, benefitting All Saints School, was a wonderful event. It has to be the best such event I've attended. Great decorations, great food, and incredible auction items for the choosing... all in an enthusiastic and fun atmosphere. Sincere congratulations and thanks to all who put on a great evening in support of All Saints!
Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving. These are the three hallmarks of the Christian life, especially during Lent. They are the three most important spiritual “weapons” of the Church—of believers—against sin and against the lies of the devil. Those lies began in the Garden of Eden with the first Adam, and the sin they unleashed turned the world into a wilderness. So the new Adam goes into the wilderness to face those temptations head on. And so do we. May God bless us and these 40 Days.
As you know, every year on Lent’s first Sunday, the “Rite of Election” takes place at Our Lady’s Cathedral... involving three separate “Rites” because there are far too many people for just one. Today, we send our own RCIA Candidates and Catechumens to the Cathedral where they will be “chosen”... called by the Archbishop to the Easter Sacraments. With just a handful of sessions remaining in RCIA between now and Easter, their formation is almost over... but in fact, it is just beginning. Our Faith always seeks understanding, which is a life-long endeavor.
As you keep our catechumens and candidates in your prayers, keep also our youth who will soon be Confirmed and our children who will soon receive their First Holy Communion during Eastertide. These upcoming Sacramental celebrations are the most joyful times in any parish. But first... there is Lent. (Remember: Stations of the Cross, Friday at 6pm.)
Welcome to Saint Mark Parish Home page. If you are a member of the parish you probably know your way around fairly well. I encourage you to take a careful look at the 2012 Annual Report, follow the weekly schedule here to the right, and find access to the Sunday Bulletin. The Sunday liturgies with homilies are here in the Liturgy Menu.
If you are visiting us here on the web, welcome, and I hope that you can find whatever has brought you to our web site. Should you be in Norman, OK; please feel welcome here, and I hope you will stop in for a personal greeting or some time in prayer should you be nearby.
Peace be with you.
